BAS AGENT SKILL SET

Aim This Skill Set is designed for persons seeking registration as a BAS Agent with the Tax Practitioners Board (TPB). The PPB has advised that all registered BAS agents must meet these education requirements by 29 February 2012.

For an individual to become registered as a BAS Agent they must meet certain education requirements (as well as having certain levels of experience). The qualification requirements can be met in a variety of ways.

The BAS Agent education requirements are:
  • Awarded at least either a FNS40210 Certificate IV in Bookkeeping OR FNS40610 Certificate IV in Accounting
  • Successfully completed a course in basic GST/BAS taxation principles that is approved by the board
Broadly, to be eligible to apply for a standard application, you will need to meet both requirements.

Learning There are flexible learning opportunities available, learning methods can include:
Recognition of Prior Learning will only be granted for this program if participants complete the associated Assessment Task to demonstrate currency. This is a requirement of the Tax Practitioners Board.
Documents Provided The documents required for this program are:
  • Assessment Tool – used to record the assessment process and summarise evidence.
  • Assessment Task Documents – A variety of templates and documents provided online.
  • Units of Competence - Participants can access current versions of all Units of Competence using the links above.
  • Evaluation Questionnaire – completed at the conclusion of each module.
IT Requirements
  • Computers and appropriate technology
  • Accounting software such as QuickBooks and/or MYOB
  • Programs for document production and management
  • Personal planner (such as MS Outlook)
  • Workplace documents, policies and procedures
  • mail and Internet connection
Assessment Participants are required to provide adequate evidence of competency; this must include the completion of provided bookkeeping assessment tasks – or equivalent. Detailed information regarding the assessment process is located in the ‘Instructions to Participants’ and the ‘Assessment Tool’.
Max Course Size This program is normally conducted by individuals with an allocated facilitator.
